The Site

Almost Wild Camping forms part of a larger woodland known as Harrys Wood.  The maps below show the boundary of the campsite and neighbouring woods.

The adjacent woods have public footpaths so are available for exploring, just not camping!

Almost Wild Camping forms the eastern most part of Harry's Wood, previously being farmland and planted around 20 years ago to create a new woodland in the National Forest.  Public footpaths connect the woods with Calke Abbey to the east and the village of Smisby to the south.

Almost Wild Camping is just over 7 acres of woodland with a public footpath running diagonally from the south to east as indicated on the map.  There is a small pond, basic basecamp and a 'hole in the ground' composting toilet area.

Important things to note, there is no running water, when it's rained, the ground along the track and some small areas of woodland are very boggy and there is the odd plane that goes over from EMA.  I love the place, but I'm biased!

When booked, I will provide the access code for the gate which provides access at the southern part of the woods - there is a small area of hard standing parking if the ground is wet, I strongly advise to use this, I have got stuck in the woods multiple times over winter, even with a 4x4.
